Walters Sets Two Visits

One of the pleasant surprises at the adidas Big Time was the play of center Kirk Walters. The Grand Rapids (MI) South Christian big man used the event to launch himself in front of college recruiters.

Walters Has Many Offers

Before Brandon Bell had nailed the game-winning 3-pointer to beat Mater Dei at the Big Time, Kirk Walters had gone to work. The big man used that game on the national stage to draw interest from a few heavy hitters.

"Lately, it's been a lot more hectic since I got back from Vegas," Walters said. So far, he has offers from Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Kent State. Seton Hall also offered but Walters isn't considering the Pirates.

After Vegas, two big timers started recruiting him. Michigan and Arizona are keeping in contact, but neither has offered.

Walters' aggressiveness and overall skill level caught the eye of a few colleges. "I didn't want to try and do too much," Walters said. "A lot of guys do that when there are a lot of scouts there." Basically, the young man kept his composure and set about his business making plays.

He has visits to Central Michigan and Western Michigan set for September, but he's in no hurry to decide. "I want to get the visits in but I won't make a commitment real soon. I'd like to before the season starts but I don't want to rush it."
