Brandon Jennings Makes Shocking Pick

Brandon Jennings is the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2008 and Scout.com's No. 6 overall player. The 6-foot-1 California native is spending the year at Oak Hill Academy (Va.) and has made up his mind where he wants to play his college ball.

Tim Floyd has done it again. A little more than a week after getting a signature from O.J. Mayo, the USC head coach got a verbal commitment from Brandon Jennings.

Mayo is Scout.com's top-ranked player in the Class of 2007 while Jennings ranks as the top point guard and No. 6 overall player in the Class of 2008.

Many people felt that the 6-foot-1 Jennings would land at UConn, but it appears as though the move to spend the season at Oak Hill Academy (Va.) made him realize that he wanted to remain close to home.

``UConn was in there, but he wanted to stay close to home and be near his support system," Southern Cal All-Stars director Pat Barrett said. "He wanted his family, friends and coaches to be close to him."

``Going to Oak Hill made him realize that he wanted to be close to home and have his family see him play," Barrett added. "It opened his eyes."

Barrett said that Jennings is in elite company.

``He will be the best point guard I've ever had in my 20-something years," Barrett said. "And I've had some good ones – Baron Davis, Jason Hart and other guys who went on to have good college and pro careers."
