Latest On Babbitt

Luke Babbitt, one of the elite prospects in the class of 2008, has a final five of Gonzaga, Ohio St., Arizona, UCLA and Nevada. He tells us he hopes to have time to schedule some unofficial visits during his senior season...

Luke Babbitt, 6-7 SR PF Reno (Nev.) Galena, was in Southern California last night playing in the Westchester tournament.

While Galena didn't have enough firepower to overcome Westchester, Babbitt showed why he's considered one of the best prospects in the country. He's an extremely versatile player, with the ability to score inside or on the perimeter. He's also a terrific rebounder and he handles the ball very well for someone his size.

We spoke with Babbitt before the game and asked him about his finalists.

"I'm down to Ohio State, Nevada, Gonzaga, UCLA and Arizona," said Babbitt. "They've all offered."

We asked Babbitt if he sees himself taking any unofficial visits soon.

"I'd like to take some unofficials during the season, depending on my schedule," said Babbitt. "I'd like to see a game or practice. But I don't know if I'll have time. I've watched them all on tv, that's all I can do right now."

We asked Babbitt if he could see himself deciding before the summer or if he planned on waiting until after official visits next fall.

"I could decide before the summer," said Babbitt. "But I'm not positive. I could decide if I feel comfortable and know I want to go there."

Babbitt said Nevada, Gonzaga, Arizona and UCLA have each been recruiting him for a long time.

"But Ohio State just came in a few months ago," said Babbitt. "I don't know as much about them."

We asked Babbitt what he needs to work on in his game.

"My athleticism, rebounding, defense...everything," said Babbitt. "Before the season, I was working with a trainer, but I don't have as much time now. But I'll try to guard quicker perimeter players in practice."

Babbitt told us he has a 3.9 GPA.
