UNLV, SMU Battling For Guard
Michael Umeh is ready to make a college decision. Well, almost ready.
"It's just a lot of calls. I'm ready to make a decision. I almost know where I want to go."
Almost? So, who leads? "UNLV," Umeh said. "[Because of] the opportunity to play. I'm going down there to see for myself on the 30th. I have the opportunity to come in and play point. It's a nice city and it seems like they are a good team in their conference. With their system, I'll develop."
OK, who's next? "SMU. I'm going down there on a visit this weekend. After these visits I'll see. Right now, if I were to choose it would be between those two."
With SMU and UNLV out in front and a pair of visits on the horizon, Umeh has a pretty good idea of what he wants to do both on the hardwood and in the classroom. "I want to go to medical school. I don't know exactly what kind of doctor I want to be but I want to be a physician, maybe a chiropractor." Uh, Michael, that's 8 years of school. "I know."
If things don't work out with either UNLV or SMU, he's got a backup list which includes Georgia Tech, Colorado State, Tulane, Rice and maybe Oklahoma, Miami and Stanford. He's just not sure if Tech has offered. "Georgia Tech wants me to come down and they are trying to schedule a home visit."
Umeh must love the heat judging by his two official visits. "If you can play in the heat you can play anywhere."
