2008 Center Makes Decision

Jared Berggren, a 6-foot-10 stud out of Minnesota is off the board. He'll stay in the Big Ten and play his college basketball for a bordering state program.

Bo Ryan's been plucking them out of the state of Minnesota at a pretty strong rate the past few seasons. This week the Badgers coach achieved his second commitment from the Class of 2008 and his second from the state of Minnesota.

Jared Berggren, a 6-foot-10 center out of Princeton (Minn.) High, who averages 19.5 points, 11.6 rebounds and 5.5 blocks committed to the program over Purdue, Iowa State and Minnesota.

"He thought that the Wisconsin was the place," Princeton coach Eric Bjurman said. "I think he's made a couple of visits there and he visited Iowa State and Minnesota but he felt more at home at Wisconsin."

Berggren has expanded his game, put on weight and improved as a prospect all in the past season. "He's looking at double and triple teams. He's able to absorb contact and he doesn't panic. He's so much stronger and he put on a good 25 pounds. His shooting is a lot more consistent. He shot 55% from the field last year and it's going up."

Jordan Taylor is the other 2008 Minnesotan committed to Wisconsin. "The kids they've gotten are excellent. Jordan Taylor is a great point guard and probably the most underrated kid in our state. Jon Leur is a stud; Bo's done well in Minnesota."
