D.J. Gay Headed To Big West

D.J. Gay, the best unsigned point guard in the west for 2007, told us yesterday that he had a leader and that he was close to reaching a decision. We learned today that Gay has decided to pull the trigger and make a commitment...

D.J. Gay, 5-11 SR PG Sun Valley (Calif.) Poly, is one of the top unsigned seniors in the west. Gay is a very good scorer who can create his own shot, as well as set the table for teammates. He has good, not great, quickness and very good ball skills.

We spoke with Gay yesterday and asked if he has a leader.

"UC Irvine – I'm really leaning to them right now," said Gay. "They've been recruiting me from the start and I've made a few trips down there. I'm comfortable with the staff and the surroundings."

Gay was apparently very comfortable with Irvine, as a source close to the recruitment tells us today that Gay has committed to the Anteaters.

Washington State, Arizona State and San Diego State were expressing varying levels of interest in Gay prior to his decision.

Gay is a very good student. He told us he has an overall GPA of 3.5.
