Clemson Lands Point Guard
The Clemson Tigers hosted guard Vern Hamilton on his official visit last weekend. Apparently, it went well.
"I made the decision," Hamilton said Tuesday evening. "I didn't know until this weekend when I got back from my official visit."
Hamilton, a very busy two-sport standout, said it was a combination of things plus a strong staff effort at Clemson that did it for the Tigers. "I guess it was two things: what Clemson was able to offer academically and athletically. Plus, the opportunity to play in the ACC and you really can't go wrong."
Hamilton really enjoyed his time at Clemson and he wasn't alone. Joining him on the visit was big man Major Wingate.
"We talked about [Clemson] and we both had positive things to say about it. I've known him for a while and he's a good guy. I don't know; from speaking with him and knowing him, we feel comfortable around each other. If he was to commit to Clemson I wouldn't be shocked. He's at Georgia for a visit this weekend."
Regardless of what Wingate does, Hamilton is nothing but excited. "I got a chance to meet some of the guys who are freshman and some that are leaving. Edward Scott, the point guard, was my host and he was a great guy. If feel as if I can come in and showcase what I am doing, I can come out on top. I feel like [the opportunity to start at the point] is there."
And as for ending a football career once he enrolls at Clemson. "I can honestly say I'm going to miss it but basketball is where my heart is. Football was good because mainly I was good at it."
