2008 Introduction: Mark McLaughlin

Mark McLaughlin, a 6-4 junior wing from Washington, is a skilled prospect who has a chance to play at the high major level. He told us recently that he's hearing from schools in the Pac-10, WCC and WAC, among others...

Mark McLaughlin, 6-4 JR SG Kenmore (Wash.) Inglemoor, is a smooth wing with nice instincts for the game. McLaughlin has good ball skills and a nice stroke to 18-19 feet.

We spoke with McLaughlin over the weekend and he told us that three schools currently lead for him.

"My top three are Arizona State, Oregon and Nevada," said McLaughlin. "I've talked with the ASU coaches and they came out to a game, along with Nevada. And Oregon was at my game when we played against Clarence Trent's team.

While those three are the top schools currently on this list, McLaughlin said another Pac-10 school was his favorite growing up.

"I always liked Arizona," said McLaughlin. "I liked their program and they always had guys going to the NBA."

We asked McLaughlin if he is considering any other schools than the ones he mentioned.

"I'm also hearing from Washington State and Gonzaga," said McLaughlin. "And Eastern Washington and Montana State have offered."

When questioned about the issues he'll consider when picking a school, McLaughlin said, "I want to come in and play as a freshman. I also want to stay close to home – someplace on the West Coast."

McLaughlin sounds as if he's not close to making a decision.

"I think I'll commit sometime after the summer," said McLaughlin.

McLaughlin told us he currently has a GPA "around 2.9 to 3.0."
