2008 Introduction: Chris Jones

Chris Jones, a long and athletic junior wing from Northern California, told us recently that he's hearing from schools in the West Coast Conference, Pac-10 and Western Athletic Conference, among others...

Chris Jones, 6-3 JR SG Newark (Calif.) Newark Memorial, is a long and athletic wing with the potential to be an excellent defender. Jones has a great bball body and he has the quickness and length to cause trouble for opponents when he gets into them.

We spoke with Jones over the weekend and he listed the schools that have been in contact with him.

"Miami, Washington State, Illinois, TCU, Nevada, San Francisco, San Jose State, Pepperdine and Santa Clara," said Jones.

We asked if any programs have offered a scholarship at this point.

"San Jose State has offered," said Jones.

We asked Jones about the issues that are important to him in choosing a school.

"A strong computer program and the academics," said Jones. "The location is kind of important --I'd prefer to stay in the west. My Mom wants me to stay closer, but my Dad just wants the best fit. Early playing time is not a big deal."

Jones said he had two favorite schools growing up.

"I had two that I liked," said Jones. "UCLA and Duke."

Jones said that he has no favorite at the moment.

"I'm open right now," said Jones.

Jones has taken unofficial visits to San Jose State, Santa Clara and USF.

When questioned about the timing of his decision, Jones replied, "I'll probably decide in July."

Jones told us that his GPA is "around 2.2 or 2.3." He'll take the SAT in March.
