Samuels Logging Miles

With juniors popping on a weekly basis, when a Top 10 guy like Samardo Samuels leaves New Jersey, it's news. Samuels has at least one visit on tap this month.

Samardo Samuels is on a mini-tour. The 6-foot-8 Elton Brand replica out of Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's was in the Big Apple for the Duke-St. John's game and got to see the Red Storm up close as well as his old teammate Lance Thomas.

The junior's tour won't end in the big city. This weekend he's on the road for the Kentucky-Florida tilt in Gainesville. "It's like an unofficial visit," Samuels told

With the season winding down, Samuels would like to see a few more campuses but as the season concludes and the tourney begins, weekends are precious. Rutgers, a local school, may get an unofficial. Connecticut and Louisville are on his radar for check-ins as well. Samuels has been to UConn before.

"I've been up to Connecticut a lot of times but I never get to see the campus."

The native of Montego Bay has also been to North Carolina, the school that would appear to have some serious pop in his recruitment. Numerous other schools are consistently mentioned as well.

Samuels,'s No. 7 junior (and rising?) turned in an exception season for the Gray Bees as his production seems to have set him apart from a few of his peers.

"Every game I played I got better. I can see where I was more comfortable and I was relaxed. Last year I know I wasn't relied on to do much. This year was just nice."
