"The way that it came about was Monty Towe was watching the game at (Miami) and runs into Art Alvarez and said he was looking for a point guard," Eddie Gonzalez, Javi's father told Scout.com.
"Art told him he has a point guard for him. Coach Towe came down two times in five days and they had a game at Florida State and he flew down with Coach Lowe right after the game."
In addition to N.C. State, LSU, Duquesne and Hofstra have offered. "I want to put him somewhere where he has a chance to contribute right away. Gonzalez can be a speed merchant who gets in the paint and makes it happen.
So far, the visit to Pack territory has gone well, according to the dad.
"It's great. We came in last night and went to the ballgame. Now we've got a full slate and we'll go visit the academic counselors and meet with the strength and conditioning coaches. It's a nice set up and the people are very professional."
Gonzalez's father indicated his son has intentions of making the rounds and taking a handful of visits. "So far it's those four and then he'll still have one left. What we're going to try and do is visit within the next two weeks so he can make a decision. There's a lot of good programs that want to offer him a scholarship.
"You have to realize what your second and third choices are. They best thing to do is visit shortly and make a commitment so he can concentrate on academics."
