Luke Babbitt Headed Home

Reno Galena High (Nev.) junior forward Luke Babbitt is having quite a week. He won the state title last Friday and then made his college decision less than a week later. Babbitt is heading back home.

Luke Babbitt is going home.

The Columbus native, who moved to Reno when he was about 8 or 9, committed to Ohio State on Thursday.

``I didn't think it would happen because they didn't recruit me for a long time," said the 6-foot-7 ½ junior at Reno Galena High (Nev.). "But I'm excited and looking forward to it."

The skilled and versatile Babbitt chose Thad Matta's program over Arizona and Nevada at the end of the day.

``Getting to know Coach Matta and his staff was the biggest thing," Babbitt said. "I like the players they have coming in and I feel real comfortable with the guys they already have."

Babbitt said that while he was hopeful that the Buckeyes would express interest, he had almost given up hope until Matta and his staff got involved prior to the high school season and came to a couple of games.

``I've always been an Ohio State fan," Babbitt said. "But I was always more of a football fan."

``I never thought it was actually happen," he added of his commitment.
