Gonzalez Finds ACC Home

Javier Gonzalez didn't need to see any other campuses. The available point guard liked what he saw in Raleigh and ended his process.

North Carolina State's search for a point guard has ended.

On Friday, Sidney Lowe's Wolfpack accepted a verbal commitment from Javier Gonzalez, one of the top remaining point guards on the board. The Miami (Fla.) Dr. Krop senior averaged 21 points and 5 assists.

He committed a day after his father told Scout.com they would take other trips. However, the Wolfpack locked him down quickly.

"Basically all the criteria we were evaluating as far as having a chance to compete for playing time, etc.; we figured most universities would offer similar opportunities," Eddie Gonzalez said. "But he's got the opportunity to play and compete in the ACC. The coaching staff embraced us, we had the opportunity, he's in a good situation and Sidney Lowe's style compliments his style."

Gonzalez will compete with Iowa State transfer Farnold Degand for immediate playing time. Senior Engin Atsur graduates and there's plenty of playing time to be filled as the Pack ran short handed at the lead guard spot the entire season.

"The plan is to complete for a job at the one spot. He's got a genuine opportunity to complete."
