Gary Correia A-10 Bound

Gary Correia won't have to go all that far from home after all. The 6-foot-1 senior combo guard, who helped lead his team to a school-record 22 victories this past season at Northfield Mount Hermon, made his decision on Wednesday night.

Gary Correia finally found what he wanted.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) combo guard committed to UMass on Wednesday.

``Travis Ford is an ideal coach for him," Northfield Mount Hermon head coach John Carroll said. "He got to where he was by hard work. He was a perimeter point guard with a great outside shot who worked hard for everything and Gary sees a lot of himself in Travis – and vice versa."

Correia averaged 14 points and 7.5 assists and shot 45 percent from 3-point land each of the past two years. He also led the Hoggers to a school-record 23 victories this past year.

Correia also drew interest from Tulane, Drexel and St. Louis.

``He brings leadership, enthusiasm and a love for the game – and the outside shooting that UMass needs to get to the next level," Carroll added.
