Hokies Pickup Commitment No. 2

Virginia Tech now has a pair of commitments from members of the Class of 2003. This weekend, the Hokies picked up a pledge for a big man who recently hit a big-time growth spurt.

Collins Picks Virginia Tech

Coleman Collins made an official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend. Like Jamon Gordon the weekend before, he didn't leave without reaching a decision and committed to Ricky Stokes and Co.

"I really liked the facilities and the fact that their strength coach is the one that works with the football team," Collins said. The 6-9, 210-pounder will major in communication and broadcasting.

Collins wasn't always a power forward. In fact, he's grown 6 inches in the last two years. His shoe size went from a 12 to a 15. "I've been working on my post game because I didn't have much of one to go along with the perimeter game I have. A lot of post players aren't used to handling it and shooting it like I am."

Last season, Collins averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds. He was scheduled to have in-home visits with South Carolina, Furman, College of Charleston, Davidson, Rice and SMU. Collins said each program had offered, except for South Carolina.
