South Florida Nabs Wing

Stan Heath is on the board at South Florida. The new coach scored a big wing with Jamaican roots.

The South Florida Bulls are on the board this spring, a few short weeks after changing head coaches. New skipper Stan Heath reached into the Florida community to snag his first recruit in Tampa.

Orane Chin, a 6-foot-7 winger out of Dr. Krop is on board, committing Thursday afternoon. Chin was aggressively pursued by Heath and assistant Darren Sorenson days after being hired by the Big East program.

"I just liked talking to them," Chin said. "I got a good feel from them and I felt they were honest and straightforward. It wasn't a pitch, I just felt comfortable."

Chin is most comfortable with the ball in his hands scoring buckets. He did so to the tune of 25 points a game last season. "They want me to do a combination of things – small forward, power forward, maybe shooting guard at times."

Vanderbilt, Tulsa and St. Joe's showed interested in Chin who recently visited the Bulls. But, at the end of the process, the native of Jamaica felt most comfortable with Heath and his crew.
