Nigerian Finds A Home In The U.S.

Churchill Odia. Know the name? Well, you will after this season. The 6-5 Nigerian guard has matriculated to the United States. He'll be playing this season in Maryland for one of the country's top programs.

Montrose Christian Lands Nigerian

One of the more common "who is that?" questions at Nike Camp was about Churchill Odia. The 6-5 native of Lagos, Nigeria, was on the mind of more than one coach, but few really knew his story and questions were plenty.

Well, we later learned in Las Vegas, Odia is a rising junior who is in the United States for the first time. He played with Gary Payton Select in the Big Time. Coaches turned out to watch him. We distinctly remember Billy Donovan specifically making one of his games, so you can kind of understand the talent level we are dealing with.

Now, Churchill has settled on a high school for the season and he's headed to play for Stu Vetter at Montrose Christian.

"He started school on Monday," Montrose assistant David Adkins said. "He got to the area a week ago yesterday. It's been a long process getting everything taken care of."

Odia is going to run the point at Montrose. Basketball is pretty much in his blood. He's the cousin of Orlando Magic forward Olumide Oyedeji. Being from Lagos, he's a friend of Sani Ibrahim, the forward who recently signed with the College of Southern Idaho.

We expect that more than one college recruiter will make his way to Montrose to watch a workout this month once they learn Churchill Odia is in the house.
