Emerging Guard To Big Ten Power

Robert Wilson knew exactly where he wanted to go. On Wednesday, he committed to the program that scouted him the hardest and beat everyone to the punch.

The Wisconsin Badgers simply beat everyone to the punch. Three weeks ago at the Boo Williams Invitational, Garfield Heights (Ohio) High guard Robert Wilson did not resemble a Big Ten player. However, the Badgers never wavered and last weekend Wilson was outstanding.

"This past weekend my high school coach was there and he was telling me that Florida was looking, so was Virginia Tech, Iowa and Xavier," Wilson said. "We didn't even talk about it because I had my mind set on Wisconsin."

On Wednesday, at a press conference, Wilson made it official and he'll be a Badger in the fall of 2008.

"They had been recruiting me for the past year and half almost. They had a lot of expectations for me. They felt that I was a good guard and that I could fit in their offense. They saw a lot of potential."

Wisconsin had a great evaluation on Wilson. While others balked, Bo Ryan's team pushed hard for a commitment. They laid the groundwork prior to the coming out party at the King James.

It's not the first time the Badgers got on a late bloomer. "They compared my game and my body to Devin Harris. They said the coaching staff is there to develop people.

"I don't know (what the difference was). This time I went out there and I enjoyed playing inside of doing stuff so hard."
