Southern Inv't: Day 1 Rundown

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Friday night at the Southern Invitational yielded an under the radar prospect plus a great look at a handful of up and coming young kids.

Eladio Espinosa, PF, Carolina Cobras AS – He's being used as a guy who catches on the wing and then goes into attack mode and his athleticism is coming out. He's a little unique in that he doesn't have to operate with his back-to-the-basket to get going. Mids will eat him up as highs evaluate him until he settles into a comfortable fit.

Will O'Huaregbe, C, Carolina Cobras AS – Here's one we haven't heard of. The lefty hails from London and attends New Horizons in Danville, Va. The kid works his tail off in the post and achieves results. He's a mid-major special.

Deshawn Painter, C, BWSL 16 – We had him at 6-foot-7 during the high school year and he's hedging toward 6-9 now. If word is correct and he's a future Virginia Cavalier as the water cooler talk indicates then Dave Leitao must be one excited guy. He's rangy, with built in offense and his body is athletic and live. He's a lock high-major with a chance to be one of the best at his position in time. Serious prospect!

Chenault Makes Impression
Tony Chenault, PF, Team Final 15 – For a young point guard, this guy has been able to achieve a balance between scoring and helping others score. There's a poise that he brings to the position and he's one of the best we've seen at the spot in what is shaping up to be a strong point guard class.

Malcolm Gilbert, C, Team Final 15 – As a former resident of the state of Delaware for 21 years, let me assure you that guys like rarely emerge from the First State. In fact, the state is one of the last places you're likely to find a 6-8 (minimum) insider with a 4.0 GPA. The St. Elizabeth's product has a shot at swinging in the ballpark of Eric Boateng (Duke/Arizona St.) and Eric Edwards (Xavier).

Ed Davis says there's not much change on his recruiting front. However, as of a month ago, he's allowed Villanova to come in and begin recruiting him. Davis still acknowledges a slight to Virginia and has Connecticut, Georgetown and North Carolina on a very short list. …

Will O'Huaregbe has heard from UNC-Wilmington, High Point, Mount St. Mary's and Buffalo. … Espinosa hears from Illinois and Clemson. Pittsburgh has thrown a call in and Charlotte is watching. UNC-W has put an offer on the table as well as other mid-tier programs. …

BWSL's Donte Hill, a 2009er, is a slashing left-hander who uses a change of speed technique to wind his way inside. … 2010 guard Deon Waiters of Team Final is absolutely wired to score the basketball. … Corey Law of Boo's older team had the nastiest throw down we've seen in a few weeks as Boo romped in its opener. …
