Top 100 Recruit Finds Home

One got a sense last week that Brett Thompson's recruitment could be nearing an end. On Tuesday, it ended as a Midwestern program locked him down.

Rick Majerus and the St. Louis Billikens program have scored a Top 100 prospect.

Brett Thompson, ranked No. 79 in the nation, is headed to St. Louis after considering Iowa State, Alabama and Indiana.

"He and his mom and his grandmother went there on an unofficial visit last Wednesday," Vienna (Ill.) High coach Rick Metcalf said.

"It went awfully well. We got tight with Porter Moser because we went to Illinois State for an unofficial visit way back when. He got the job at St. Louis and Porter was real truthful. It came down to a comfort zone. With Majerus and the facility in 2008; it all came into play."

As a junior, Thompson averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. "The numbers are deceiving because there were numerous games when he didn't even play a whole quarter," Metcalf. "We were killing some people. I want to play those guys a little longer this year."

Moser began forming his relationship with Thompson when he was the head coach at Illinois State. That relationship paid off under his new employer and now the Billikens own a commitment from a highly regarded insider.
