Baciu Headed To The ACC

There's big news out of Fletcher, N.C. Catalin Baciu,'s No. 56 prospect in the Class of 2008, has reached a verdict.

The Clemson Tigers scored a key recruit this week as Oliver Purnell and assistant Shaka Smart locked up one of the top prospects in the state of North Carolina. Actually, Catalin Baciu isn't just a North Carolinian; he's Romanian and a very good player.'s No. 56 prospect in the nation ran with the Romanian Junior National Team last summer. Baciu, who goes by "Bobo", made his way to Fletcher (N.C.) Veritas Christian where the 7-footer distinguished himself last season.

"He's a guy that's just going to develop," Veritas coach John Jordan said. "He's going to get better and better. He's going to train with Gheorghe Muresan this summer after he gets done with the national team.

"He's got the right attitude and he's a hard worker. What's impressive is his speed up and down the floor and he's a 7-footer."

Baciu had offers from Davidson, North Carolina State and South Carolina. He made a recent unofficial visit to Clemson and the rest is history as the Tigers have procured a commitment from one of their highest rated additions under Purnell.

Baciu is a versatile big man with a large ceiling. A finisher with both hands inside, he can face the bucket to mid-range and has a variety of ways to put the ball in the bucket.
