Babb Commits After Camp

Elite camps are great ways for kids to get to know coaches and vice versa. Over the weekend, Chris Babb fell hard for one program and ended his recruitment.

The fruits of New Mexico's work on its 2008 elite camp came in the form of a commitment. Chris Babb, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard verballed to the Lobos over the weekend.

"I sat down with Steve Alford and they offered me last night," Babb said on Sunday. "Me and my dad went back to the hotel and discussed it. We thought it would be a good move as they rebuild the program. I'm really excited."

Texas Christian had offered and was the other key player in Babb's recruitment. The shooting ace from Arlington (Tex.) Oak Ridge School, averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds last season. Babb will cancel his unofficial visit scheduled with Oral Roberts later this month.

"I'm the first commitment from 2008 and they want somebody to come in and help build the program. They'll lose 4 guards and they want someone to come in and make things happen."

One of the unique characteristics about the Lobos program is their history and the passion the fans have for the team. Both made a great impression on the 2008 recruit. "It's a basketball school. They have great support with the school and the whole state. That was a pretty big thing; all the support they have."
