Padgett Getting Close

David Padgett, the top rated center in the west, has done a thorough job in preparing to make his college choice. He has one more in-home visit to go before he make his decision...

We spoke with Pete Padgett, father of David Padgett, 6-10 SR C Reno (Nev.) High, recently about his son's recruitment.

When we spoke with Pete, he and his wife had just returned from a visit to the North Carolina campus. We asked for his impressions. "It's a very impressive place," said Padgett. "With the tradition and everything -- just very impressive."

David Padgett has visited each of his four finalists -- Kansas, Stanford, Arizona and North Carolina.

He's also had in-home visits with Kansas, Arizona and North Carolina. Pete told us that a final in-home visit with Stanford will probably take place in the last week of September.

We asked if there was a timetable for a decision and Pete replied, "probably in the first or second week of October. I think he'll be ready to make a decision at that point."

There's been speculation that Padgett might like to play with Omar Wilkes, and vice versa. We asked Pete for his thoughts on the possibility. "I don't think that will affect the decision of David or Omar," said Padgett. "I think they both feel like it would be great if it happened -- they enjoy playing with each other -- but it's not a major factor for either one of them."
