Louisiana Tech has secured a big time transfer.

Magnum Rolle, a power forward out of LSU by way of the Bahamas signed the papers with Kerry Rupp's UAB program, according to Darrell Sears his Bahamian coach and mentor.

"We looked into schools that had success working with big guys and their development," Sears said. "We looked at UAB because of Kerry Rupp. We looked at VCU too."

Rolle, a 6-foot-10 former No. 7 power forward in's 2005 rankings, wasn't looking for the highest level, simply a place he could expand his game.

"Magnum showed that he has the talent to play at a high level," Sears said. "A lot of kids get caught up in the big conferences but he wanted to make a decision to go somewhere to play and develop."

Rolle was on LSU's Final Four team in 2006 and averaged 2.3 points and 3 rebounds a game over his 2-year career at LSU. In picking Louisiana Tech, he reunites with former LSU assistant Nikita Johnson.

"Knowing that Kerry was there and the relationship with Nikita Johnson was a plus," Sears said. "He was at LSU and that's someone we were close to and trusted. Plus, we know what Coach Rupp did with Michael Doleac and Andrew Bogut. Karl Malone's involvement with that program doesn't hurt either."
