Mitchell Rolls With Commitment

One of the top wings in the Class of 2008 is now off the board. One SEC program wasn't about to let everyone in on their little secret: Tony Mitchell is a player and now he's a committed prospect.

The Alabama Crimson Tide scored, in the opinion of, a significant recruit from the Class of 2008. Tony Mitchell, a 6-foot-6 wing man out of Swainsboro (Ga.) High picked Mark Gottfried's program over South Carolina and Cincinnati.

"It's true, he's committed," Hoop Planet AAU coach James Clark told "He was with his high school coach this weekend and I just got off the phone with them. His coach said a lot of people were calling and he wanted to focus in on his academics and get it all straight on his end.

One of the top scorers (13.3 ppg.) at the recent NBA Players Association Camp, Mitchell is likely to improve upon his pre-summer ranking of No. 67. A terrific athlete with size and range, Clark sees big things for Mitchell early on in Tuscaloosa.

"He's going to make a big impact. We've been playing him at the two guard to build his confidence.

"He's a jump shooter but it's hard to say because he's a great jumper too. He's got a good vertical and he shoots it well. This kid can put the ball in the hole. The kid can shoot the ball."
