LeBron Profile: Aminu Is Close

The rumblings are true: Al-Farouq Aminu is close to pulling the trigger. He's going to play in the ACC, but where?

Al-Farouq Aminu used his athleticism and finishing abilities to come out with a strong opening effort at the LeBron James Skills Academy. Aminu, the highest-rated small forward on Scout.com's board could be a week away from a college decision.

"I think by Peach Jam I'll be good," Aminu said at camp. When asked if he had a school in mind, Aminu admitted he does. "I might. I'm about 75% sure."

Two weeks ago at USA Basketball there was talk he was down to a pair of programs – Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. By most accounts, those programs have separated themselves from North Carolina. However, rumors that UNC were out of the mix weren't exactly correct.

Aminu said that before USA Basketball, he had limited contact with the program. "I think UNC got back in the picture," Aminu said. "They talked to me and explained of how much importance I am to them. They used to call my school and over the summer I didn't get to talk to them much because I wasn't in school much so I didn't really hear from them and it was kind of like Wake and Tech. I thought they fell off but they're back in the picture."

"Back in the picture" is one thing but landing Aminu is another. Wake Forest's Skip Prosser and Georgia Tech's Paul Hewitt were courtside for his skill session. UNC dispatched assistant Steve Robinson and Roy Williams is expected in town later this week.

One thing is certain: either Wake or Tech were on the verge of getting a commitment from Aminu. He wouldn't say which was he was leaning but he definitely was extremely close to pulling the trigger a short time ago.

"I was about to go a school, my mom said it was OK but another school introduced themselves (again)," Aminu said. "I really wanted to see what they had to say because I liked them and now it's back all the way to 50-50 again."
