Morris Is Big East Bound

The Scarlet Knights have their second commitment from the Class of 2008. Center Christian Morris joined the program on Monday.

Christian Morris, a 6-foot-8 center out of South Kent (Conn.) South Kent, is headed to the Big East. On Monday afternoon, the big fella reached his decision and picked the Scarlet Knights.

"Christian is committing to Rutgers," AAU coach Lawrence McGuggins said. "I think it had to do with the assistant coaches. They were on top of their game as far as recruitment."

Morris, a native of New York, turned in one of best recent performances at the June NBA Camp and his AAU coach indicated he's been on a good run lately.

"He made tremendous strides," McGuggins said. "A lot of the schools really began to fall in love with him and he lost weight. He's on a good roll. He'll continue to do and that won't stop. I think Rutgers isn't a bad situation. He'll go right in and play and he'll work hard."

West Virginia, Virginia, Virginia Tech and South Carolina were tracking Morris and making pushes prior to Rutgers locking him down.

Morris joins Top 100 wing Mike Rosario as the two Rutgers commitments from the Class of 2008 at this stage.
