Clark Opts For Big 12 Campus

Andre Clark proved to be one of the top rising frontcourt players coming into the summer. The likely 2008 post grad is headed to play for Jeff Capel's Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners are in business.

Late Sunday night Jeff Capel's contingent received word that prep school-bound Andre Clark would eventually wear the Sooners colors. Clark, a 6-foot-9 center prospect out of North Little Rock (Ark.) committed to Capel's crew after listening to Indiana, Colorado and Kentucky. Florida showed interest during the month as well.

Clark's status as a prospect rose this spring based on a series of solid performances with the Arkansas Hawks. Last season as a senior he averaged 17 points a game. In all probability he'll be at prep school next season barring a change in his academic status. Regardless, the Sooners made a very big impact on him during the recruitment.

"What set Oklahoma apart was that once we got there they were very honest," Clark said. "They were down to earth. They took it to a whole new level. They explained how much they wanted me. Me and my mom loved the campus.

"What separated them is that they explained how good the opportunity I have there is. I bonded pretty good with the players. I was impressed how they carried themselves."

If he remains a member of the Class of 2008, Clark would be OU's initial verbal commitment from the group.
