Sim Looking At West Coast Programs

Garrett Sim is an outstanding prospect, but he's also an excellent student. It's no surprise then that he's hearing from one of the elite academic institutions in the country, as well as a top WCC program...

Garrett Sim, 6-1 SR PG/SG Portland (Ore.) Sunset, is one of the elite guards in the West Coast class of 2008. He has an excellent feel for the game, a very nice stroke and he's an underrated athlete. The rest of the country may not have caught on yet, but Sim is a legitimate high major prospect.

I spoke with Sim recently and he told me that two programs currently top his list.

"Santa Clara and Stanford are my top two," said Sim. "I'm also hearing a bit from Arizona State, Washington State, Fresno State and Oregon State."

Sim has an offer from Santa Clara and Stanford will apparently take him if he can get past admissions. I asked Sim where things stand with the Stanford application.

"I'm going to fill it out during the July break (July 16-21) before we start playing again," said Sim. "I want to get that turned in before Vegas."

I asked Sim if he has a timeframe for making a decision.

"Once I get back from the tournaments at the end of July, then I'll see where things stand," said Sim.

I asked Sim if Stanford will be his choice if he's admitted.

"If I get in then, yeah, Stanford would probably be my top school," said Sim.
