2009 Introduction: Abdul Gaddy

The Pacific Northwest has produced a lot of high major players in recent years. In the 2009 class, there appears to be another outstanding prospect coming out of the area. Point guard Abdul Gaddy gives us his early recruiting thoughts...

Abdul Gaddy, 6-3 JR PG Tacoma (Wash.) Bellarmine Prep, is a terrific young prospect. Gaddy's got the size, frame, skill level and feel for the game to be one of the elite players in the country for 2009. I want to watch him play some more but, off of a couple viewings in Las Vegas, he appears to be a strong candidate for the top point guard in the west for 2009.

I spoke with Gaddy in Vegas and asked about the schools that are recruiting him.

"I'm wide open right now," said Gaddy. "I'm hearing from Kansas, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Gonzaga, Arizona and most of the Pac-10."

I asked Gaddy what he is looking for in a school.

"I want to go someplace where they have a basketball history," said Gaddy. "Someplace where they have sent guards to the NBA and someplace where they'll make me work hard. Early playing time is probably important. I might want to stay somewhat close to home.

When asked if he has an early leader, Gaddy replied, "I'm pretty high on Washington."

Gaddy could be making a fairly early decision.

"I'll probably decide sometime next spring," said Gaddy.

I asked Gaddy if his parents have a preference for his college choice.

"They'd like me to go to Washington, but if I want to leave they have no problem," said Gaddy.

Gaddy told me he has a 3.5 GPA.
