2008 Introduction: Damian Lillard

The July evaluation period doesn't produce as many new prospects as it used to, but there are still a few players that crop up in the summer. Damian Lillard is a very talented point guard from Northern California who helped himself in July...

Damian Lillard, 6-0 SR PG Oakland (Calif.) High, is one of the elite point guards in the west for 2008. Despite not being very tall, Lillard has pretty long arms and a solid frame. He has a very nice shot to the stripe, with a compact stroke and quick release. He has a good feel for the game and he generally makes good decisions.

I spoke with Lillard recently and asked about the schools that have been recruiting him to date.

"Boise State, Fresno State, Santa Clara, Weber State, Oral Roberts, St. Mary's, San Diego, San Diego State, Montana, Montana State and SMU," said Lillard.

When asked which schools have offered, Lillard said, "Boise State, Santa Clara, Weber State, Oral Roberts and Montana."

I asked Lillard if he has a leader.

"Santa Clara, Boise State, Weber State and SMU," said Lillard.

Lillard talked a little about the factors he'll consider when choosing a school.

"I want to play early and get a good education in case basketball doesn't work out," said Lillard. "Location doesn't really matter. Whatever is the best fit for me."

Lillard said he's not really close to making a decision just yet.

"I want to take five visits," said Lillard. "I'll probably decide in November."

Lillard told me he has a 2.7 GPA.
