Gillenwater Makes His Pick

Troy Gillenwater took a visit this past weekend and it was all he needed to see, as he made his pick and will head to school in the near future.

It didn't take Marvin Menzies long to reel in a Top 100 player. The new Aggie coach received a commitment from Troy Gillenwater, who is ranked 73rd in the 2008 list, this week.

"I took a visit and me and the head coach Marvin Menzies have known each other for a while," Gillenwater said. "So I was real interested. I took a visit and had a good visit and I felt like it was the right place for me."

"I had a lot of fun [on the visit]. It was a real family atmosphere and everybody understands my game and how I can fit in. I just had a real good time and I felt like that was the right place for me."

The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward also indicated that he is reclassifying to the 2007 class. According to a source he will be ineligible for the upcoming season and plans to red-shirt.

Gillenwater, who picked the Aggies over Florida and Pittsburgh, sees himself as a utility guy at New Mexico state.

"My role is pretty simple. I'm a do it all type of guy. I can play in and out and that's what Coach Menzies wants me to do. He wants me to be a leader and just do what's best for the team.

Gillenwater averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds last season.
