Rhode Island Picks Up Wing

Randy Dezouvre was ready to make his decision, so on Monday the wing out of Montreal gave Rhode Island word that he wanted to be a Ram.

John Dangelas has sent plenty of players to the D-1 ranks from his Champlain St. Lambert program up in Montreal. He feels that Randy Dezouvre could have the best college career of any of them.

The 6-foot-4 rising senior wing joined his program midway through last season and only played in one AAU tournament this summer – at Kentucky in July – before deciding to pull the trigger for Rhode Island.

``He's a tough, tough competitor who plays hard and his motor goes all the time," Dangelas said. "He's long and he really competes."

Dezouvre averaged a double-double last season, but didn't get much exposure other than the tournament in Kentucky in which numerous A-10 schools started to get involved.

``He's athletic and he plays his butt off," Dangelas added. "Coach (Jim) Baron came out in July, but Pat Skerry and the staff have been recruiting him since April. They think he plays a lot like Bruce Bowen – he defends and rebounds."

``He's a perfect fit for the way that Coach Baron likes to play," he continued. "They get up and down and Randy's motor never quits.
