Family To Play A Factor In Decision
Justin Benson, a high scoring power forward, says he'll be ready to decide by the end of the week. "I'm going to call and [the schools] and let them know on Saturday," Benson said. "It's the same teams. I just don't want to give away any surprises."
Benson said that in his head he's pretty much down to three schools, though he declined to name them. Pepperdine, Kent State, DePaul, St. Louis, New Mexico and Houston are his final six. Though Benson wouldn't speculate as to which three are in the strongest, we'd be willing to gamble that a winner came from the group of Kent State, Pepperdine, Houston and New Mexico.
Benson said that he's speaking with his mother a lot about the choice. "My choice and hers might not be the same," Benson said. "All of the schools have the same to offer. My mom wants me to go where it's a good academic school and she feels good about the coach."
Benson will have to decide on a school without having visited the programs. He's yet to take the SAT and can't make official visits until he does so. In the past, he said that he's OK with committing before visiting.
From the sounds of it, this is a young man intent on making an impact in college. "I'm going to go in and play and get my degree. I want to bake a cake; if I can play after four years that's just icing on the cake."
