2009 Intro: Donnavan Kirk

Fresh off a solid summer, Donnavan Kirk is starting to pick up scholarship offers. He recently picked up an offer from an in-state school and he took a trip there this past weekend.

This summer was exactly what Donnavan Kirk needed. Playing for The Family, Kirk traveled the circuit, played against top competition and competed against some of the best at his position.

"I've been practicing a lot in the morning with some real tall guys," Kirk said. "I know I need to get better, but I think the summer next year is going to be easier for me. But I think I held my own and made a name for myself this summer."

"I think the summer went well, but I think towards the end our team bonded more," he continued. "I think next year we are going to be really good, because we have so much talent."

Michigan State sure noticed his play this summer. Recently the 6-foot-9, 195-pound power forward picked up a scholarship offer from the Spartans and this past weekend he took a trip to East Lansing.

"They finally offered and I got high interest them," Kirk, a standout at Pontiac (Mich.) Notre Dame Prepatory, said. "I talked to Coach Izzo and he told me about it. I felt like that was a good accomplishment for me and I felt like that was well deserved."

Since the summer Kirk has also heard from Florida, Miami, Memphis, Villanova, Syracuse, Indiana, Xavier, Iowa, Michigan and Dayton. The Hurricanes are the only other school to offer.

"My top three would probably be Michigan State, University of Florida and Memphis," Kirk said. "I'd put Michigan in there too."

"I feel like Michigan State has done the best job of recruiting me, but I also feel like those are the best programs right now. I like their styles of play and with Michigan State I watch their games and I want to watch them more in depth.

Although the attention is coming on strong, Kirk doesn't plan to make a decision any time soon.

"Right now I'm going to take it for what it is. I'm not going to cut anybody out. I do know I want to make a decision heading into my senior year."
