Kavanaugh Commits To The Flyers

Matt Kavanaugh decided that he had seen enough. The 2009 prospect gave the Dayton Flyers a verbal commitment Wednesday morning.

The Dayton Flyers have done a great job keeping some of the local big guys in-state. Chris Wright and Josh Benson both chose to play for the Flyers and now local standout Matt Kavanaugh will join them.

"Matt wanted to stay close to home and they liked the recruiting process," Kavanaugh's AAU Coach Gregg Brown said. "Chris Wright is committed there and they felt that it would be great to play in front of family and friends."

"They liked the campus and just kind of liked the atmosphere. His parents are UD grads and they are season ticket holders. I think it was a combination of all that."

The Centerville (Ohio) High standout also had interest from West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Miami-OH, Kent State and Wright State, but felt more comfortable with Dayton's coaching staff.

"He decided that he wanted to go to UD," Brown said. "It was a good choice for Matt. Coach Gregory and Billy Schmidt did a great job recruiting him the entire summer."

According to Brown, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound 2009 prospect will be able to play inside and out for the Flyers

"Matt is 6-9 and can play some on the wing. His best position is probably going to be the three/four because he shoots it well from the perimeter. He has great passing skills."
