Garth Headed To Lobo Land

Steve Alford's New Mexico program has established a foot print in the state of Texas. On Thursday the program landed its second prospect of the week, this time opting for a point guard.

Nathen Garth is headed to Lobo land. The 6-foot-3 point man out of Dallas (Tex.) Woodrow Wilson committed to the New Mexico Lobos on Thursday. He'll make his official visit to Albuquerque Sept. 22.

"At first it was the opportunity to play for a coach that has played and coached at a high level," Garth said of his decision. "That began the process. Then they got three guys I know and then it was the opportunity to lead four high-major guys in the same class. We're going to compete at a very high level."

Since de-committing from Minnesota, Garth said he'd heard from UTEP, Ole Miss, Temple, Auburn and Tennessee. New Mexico, which had been recruiting him for a whole, began making sense.

" From a basketball standpoint it's the opportunity to lead guys with great fan support from The Pit," Garth said. "Coach Neal and Coach Walker were real up front with me and had me look at the positives and negatives just in case.

"I felt real comfortable. I know Coach Walker personally from being in Texas and being around AAU. It wasn't just about going to the highest school that recruited me but guys I feel comfortable with."
