Jones Sets Visit To SEC Program

Not may point guards remain in the 2008 class, so Verdell Jones is an important recruit for a handful of schools. Jones recently set up an official visit and is planning to take a few more.

Verdell Jones has been relatively quiet lately. Not only was the 6-foot-4, 155-pound tough to find in July, but there hasn't been much info floating around about his recruitment.

"Everything is going good," Jones said. "I'm just working out and stuff trying to get ready for the colleges to come in."

Jones said Gonzaga was set to come in for in-home visit soon. He also mentioned that Connecticut, Texas, Kansas, Virginia, Kentucky and Oregon are showing strong interest in him. The Wildcats even have him set for an official visit.

"I've already planned one visit," he said. "I'm going to go to Kentucky for midnight madness. Kentucky is recruiting me really hard. They are definitely one of the schools that I'm looking at so I'm looking forward to going there for that."

Although Jones didn't name any favorites, it sounds like the Wildcats have made a big impact on him. He's built a close relationship with their head coach and likes how they have recruited him.

"I knew Coach Gillispie when he was here at Illinois. I know Jarrance Howard too. He's one of the GA's. Plus they are just recruiting me real hard, so that's another reason I'm looking at them."

The Champaign (Ill.) Central standout also plans to see a few more schools before he makes his final decision.

"There's a few other schools that I want to visit. Me and my dad haven't really decided which other schools we want to take visits to."

Jones is ranked No. 28 on the 2008 point guard list.
