Robert Chubb found his perfect fit. The Peachtree Citty (Ga.) McIntosh standout took a handful of trips to Auburn, including the last two weekends, and Monday evening he gave Jeff Lebo a verbal commitment.
"It actually became official yesterday evening down at Auburn," Robert's father, Rob, said. "They had offered last week and we thought about it through the weekend. It sort of comes down to, when a dream school offers, you take it."
Last weekend Robert and his father took an unofficial visit to Auburn and took in their football game against South Florida. While on campus they got to check out the facilities and they heard about the new ones.
"It kind of boils down to it being a great school," the elder Chubb said. "The coaching staff is just excellent and the program is on the way up. There are also new basketball facilities coming to Auburn."
"It was a great school, great facility and great coaching. It was just what he was looking for. There wasn't any reason for him to wait six or eight months when it comes right in front of you."
According to Robert's dad, the early commitment should help his son development wise. The 6-foot-9 junior big man can now focus on getting better and becoming the type of player Auburn wants him to be.
"He's just starting his 11th grade year and he's got a couple years to develop and have Auburn shape his development to what they want," Rob Chubb said. "SEC is great basketball and very physical and they see him fitting in that style."
