American: Blanks Provides Heroics

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Keith Blanks was having the best weekend of anyone on the DC Assault team. It was only fitting that he factor prominently in the American Division championship game against the Green Wave at the Charlie Weber.

Blanks Shot Lifts Assault

When the marathon game finally ended after three players succumb to leg cramps and a comedy of errors was turned in by the officials, Keith Blanks just smiled.

The Laurinburg prep standout drilled a 3-pointer late in the game that would eventually provide Assault with a 59-58 win over the Green Wave, a team that was an entire collection of players from Spingarn High.

The Green Wave worked for the better part of four periods to stay with Assault. Finally, late in the 4th, Sohi Frazier's bucket tied things up. But, Blanks would be the hero on this day.

All tournament long Blanks was the Assault's top gun. He loves playing AAU basketball, especially at the Weber neighborhood rivals have a chance to one-up each other every time out.

In the final, Blanks scored 26 points to lead Assault. Regis Koundjia tallied 9 points and Omari Israel 7. For the Green Wave Jerome Petticolas was the team's high scorer. He hit for 21; his second consecutive game over 20 in the playoffs.
