Oliver Develops List Of Favorites

Following the spring evaluation period, Brian Oliver's recruitment began to heat up. Now with the high school season approaching, Oliver has a handful of scholarship offers and is starting to develop a list of favorites.

Schools are lining up for Brian Oliver. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound wing recently held an open gym and coaches from Xavier, Maryland, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, Virginia Tech, Penn State and Cincinnati were all in attendance.

Although they weren't present for the open gym, Oliver, a standout at New Castle (Del.) William Penn, is also getting strong interest from West Virginia, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh. Of the schools recruiting him a few are starting to stick out.

"I really like West Virginia and I do like Maryland, I'm not going to lie," Oliver said. "But I'm going to have to see where everything falls (regarding Maryland). I like Maryland and I like Pitt. Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland and Miami those are my top schools."

Oliver later mentioned Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech in his top group of schools as well. One team that has been at the top for a while is the Terrapins, however he's still trying to gauge their interest.

"Maryland has actually always been my favorite school growing up," Oliver said. "I've been able to see myself going there since the first time I've visited and I basically had said if they offered I was going to go there. But now I don't know what is going on. It seems that they are interested. I just want to make sure I go where I should go."

Despite Maryland being his childhood favorite, West Virginia and their new coaching staff have made a big impact. He even has an unofficial visit setup for October 20th.

"I have a really good relationship with the coaches. Billy Hahn is a great guy and Huggins. I talk to them and they are real cool. I have a good relationship with some of the players too."

Oliver will also know a few prospects at Pittsburgh. A pair of his AAU teammates are headed there and he said the Panthers staff have shown a "ton" of interest in him.

"I like Coach Herrion," Oliver said. "He's a really good guy. I know Travon [Woodall], who is going there and I know Ashton Gibbs too."

The next step for Scout.com's 67th ranked rising junior is to take a few visits. He's already been to Pittsburgh, Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers. He has a visit scheduled for West Virginia and he hopes to set up a few more.

"I think I'm going to end up takings visits and wait it out for a while. I don't want to make any rash decisions and just go for it. I want to make sure it's really the place for me."
