Tchiengang Joins SEC Program

Steve Tchiengang had his pick of programs and leagues this fall. The power forward with face up game elected to join an SEC program Tuesday afternoon.

Steve Tchiengang, a 6-foot-8 power forward and 65th ranked prospect per Scout.com, picked the Vanderbilt Commodores over Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech and Baylor on Tuesday.

"He's had very good schools academically and at high-major conferences; they all brought something different to table," Montverde coach Kevin Sutton told Scout.com. "I had spoken to him today and he had prayed about it. When he spoke to me this afternoon he really felt that Vanderbilt presented everything that he was looking for in a university and the next four years and in life."

Tchiengang transferred into Montverde this fall to finish off his prep career. Sutton said Tchiengang has done nice things since his arrival.

"His maturity level has been what it needs to be. He's learned how to compete on a daily basis and he's being challenged, especially on the court. He's made the necessary adjustments to be successful at Montverde academically, athletically and socially."

Tchiengang is Vandy's first pledge from the Class of 2008.

"I think my relationship with the coaching staff was great," Tchiengang said. "I felt comfortable with the other staffers. Notre Dame and the other schools, they've been hard on me but it just came down to how comfortable I felt. My heart was leaning toward Vanderbilt."
