Thompson Closing In On Decision

As wing players continue to fly off the "best available" board, another appears on the verge of making his decision. Klay Thompson's close and has a list of favorites.

Klay Thompson, a 6-foot-6 small forward out of Santa Margarita High in California, told Scout.com that he's got one more official visit slated and it's for Oct. 6 to Nevada. However, Thompson said he's got a feel for the program and wasn't positive the visit would be necessary.

The big players in his recruitment are the Pack, Notre Dame, Washington State and Michigan. Thompson is the 35th ranked small forward in the nation per Scout.com.

"I like Notre Dame and Washington State a lot," Thompson said. "With Notre Dame it's the academics, a chance to play in the Big East. For Washington State, it's on the rise and it's in the Pac-10; coach Bennett's a great coach.

"If I graduate from Notre Dame the degree would mean so much. It's a great school and they're good in basketball. I could see myself going there 4 years."

Thompson has been on Michigan's radar since the summer and he visited the school in early September. "They're still in there. They're just rebuilding and Coach Beilein will do a terrific job."

For Thompson, the son of a former NBA player, developing his game with an eye on potentially earning a living playing the game down the road is driving his decision. "I'd say if that program can develop me over 4 years and get me to be the best I can be, maybe I can play for money in a few years."
