Michael Snaer, 6-4 JR SG Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde, is one of the elite shooting guard prospects in the West Coast class of 2009. Snaer has good size, a very good frame, a solid stroke, and a very good feel for the game. He's a willing defender – something you don't see often from high school kids – and he plays with toughness. With continued development, Snaer has a chance to be among the top guard prospects in the country.
I spoke with Elvert Perry, Snaer's coach on the Inland club team, and asked about the schools expressing interest in Snaer.
"Arizona, Washington, Missouri and USC have all been out to his school," said Perry. "Cal is another program that is recruitng him as well. Those schools are probably the main ones. Missouri and Cal have offered. I think Washington will probably be offering soon."
I asked Perry what the biggest issue will be in Snaer's decision.
"Immediate playing time," said Perry. "Wherever he can go in and play right away. After that, a good coach and a chance to win. Location doesn't really matter."
Perry said he doesn't see Snaer making an early decision.
"It'll be a late decision – we won't be doing anything early," said Perry. "He'll play through the summer and decide after that."
A very good student, Snaer previously told me he had a GPA around 3.6.
