The Colorado Buffaloes won a long battle for the services of Toby Veal this week. After considering UNLV, Colorado State and Auburn, Veal ended his deal for the Buffs. Veal attends Savannah (Ga.) Johnson.
"The main factor was Jeff Bzdelik coaching in the NBA for 18 years," traveling team coach Curtis Wheeler told Scout.com. "Toby hopes that one day he can be an NBA player and he thinks working with that coach will help him get there. He wanted to far away from home and get out of the South. He loves the mountains and the backdrop of the campus."
Auburn recently achieved a pair of commitments that probably weighed in on the decision. However, it was always a possibility that Veal simply wanted to leave the region. Throughout the process the Buffaloes remained true to Veal.
"Charles Baker did a great job of recruiting him. Even when Toby got hurt he came to Savannah twice to just hang out with him in the gym while he shot around."
