Swindle Is Big East Bound

A late blooming center out of Florida committed to one of the state programs Monday night.

Stan Heath's South Florida Bulls locked up a 6-foot-10, 260 pound center out of Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep. Gene Swindle picked the Bulls over Old Dominion and interest from a number of programs.

"My son committed to South Florida tonight," Gene Swindle Sr., told Scout.com. "Seth Greenberg called tonight and wanted him to wait a few more days. Penn State came back but my son's been excited about South Florida since the beginning."

As a junior, Swindle averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds. He's considered a prospect in the making and the long term plan for him may include a redshirt. "They need to make that decision. If he's ready, play him. If he's not, redshirt him. At this point, we aren't sure what they're going to do."

Swindle said the Bulls got this done because they never wavered in their commitment to the young man. "These guys stuck with him the whole time. Everyone else said they liked him but South Florida stuck with him."
