Interest Picks Up For Lawrence

Omari Lawrence is among the most talented prospect in the New York area, and he's starting to pick up interest and scholarship offers.

This past summer the New York Guacho guards proved themselves as the best backcourt on the circuit. While Kemba Walker, Darryl "Truck" Bryant, Jordan Theodore and Chris Fouch will head to college, the cupboard won't be bare.

Not only will Durand Scott be back, but also Omari Lawrence will play on the 17's next year. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard is already a national name and his recruitment is starting to take shape.

"Things are starting to pick up real fast, now that people are coming to see me and see what I can do," Lawrence said.

Since coaches could be on the road, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Xavier, St. John's, Villanova and Georgetown have been in to watch him work out. Thus far he claims scholarship offers from Memphis and Pittsburgh.

Lawrence said he's been in contact with both schools that have offered him a scholarship. Jamie Dixon even stopped by his school recently.

"I've talked to coach Dixon a few times and he's visited our school a few times and we have a pretty good relationship.

The next step for the Bronx (N.Y.) St. Raymond standout is to set up unofficial visits.

"I'm going to try and go to a few campuses next month before the season starts," Lawrence said. "I just want to wait it out and weigh my options and see what I have."
