Pitts Headed to Thundering Herd

Damier Pitts wasted little time after coming on campus for Midnight Madness. He's looking to learn from the same guy who helped turn Taurean Green into one of the top point guards in the nation: Marshall head man Donnie Jones.

Every time Marshall coach Donnie Jones saw Damier Pitts, he'd toss him a ball.

``That was his way of telling me the ball was going to be in my hands from day one," the 5-foot-10, 160-pound Pitts said after committing to Marshall on Saturday.

Pitts chose the Thundering Herd over Oklahoma, South Carolina and South Florida. ``I like the environment and the coaches," Pitts said. "It's a great fit for me and it's the perfect style of play." ``Coach Jones told me I can come right in and make an impact." Pitts starred at Charlotte Christian School (N.C.) and was impressive this past summer while playing with the Carolina Raptors.

Jones is hoping he's found a guy in the mold of someone else he's coached: Taurean Green.

Green came to Gainesville with little fanfare and turned into a guy who helped lead the Gators to a pair of national titles.
