The Marquette Golden Eagles have been to Texas before to get a player. Now that assistant Buzz Williams is on staff they'll probably return a few more times. On Sunday, the first trickle from what may be a pipeline yielded an oil strike.
"What put them over the top with me was that they liked the way I carry myself," Williams told Scout.com. "They see a lot of potential in me as a person and as an athlete. They say Coach Crean is not the type of guy who is going to recruit you just because you're in the Top 10. He feels like I'm the perfect fit for him. He thinks I'm capable of going in there and playing for him."
As junior, Williams accounted for 11 points and 8 rebounds. He made the unofficial visit to Marquette this past weekend, fell for the atmosphere and the loved the emphasis on hoops. "I'm from down south in Texas and a lot of energy goes to football. Up here all the fans put their energy into basketball and I like that."
Marquette, which had tons of prospects on campus, also rolled out the biggest alum the program has. Former NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade strolled onto campus for a surprise visits.
"Nobody knew he was coming and I was shocked that I saw him," Williams said.
