Stutz is set to visit SMU and coach Matt Doherty. According to his father Bill, the process is beginning to become slightly clearer in terms of a school list. "He's narrowing it down. He's got three pretty serious and one that he's hanging onto in Marquette."
Wichita State and SMU have offered. Kentucky said it would like to have him but hasn't laid the actual scholarship offer on the table.
"The way Coach Gillispie told him was that the ball is in your court," Bill Stutz said. "He said that when he wants to get serious about Kentucky they'll talk about the next step."
Marquette is an interesting topic. Stutz's father doesn't feel the interest but his son seems to keep the Golden Eagles in the mix. "We've never talked to Coach Crean and he cancelled his home visit but Coach Buckley continues to call him and we've never had a serious conversation. I don't think there's a whole lot of interest there but Garrett thinks there is."
Stutz has been to Wichita State unofficially twice and could be there on short notice if an official visit were needed.
"I don't think it'll go much more than a couple of weeks. It may go into the first week of November but by then he'll verbally commit to somebody."
The process has been somewhat overwhelming given the lack of attention the center received prior to the spring recruiting period. "He didn't have a single sniff from anybody. We come back from Houston, he's 6-10, 220 pounds and he knows it. That's when it started. By mid-July he had 40 schools from 10 conferences. Now we're down to three."
